Jesus "Jessie" Garza, Sr., who was 88 years of age, joined God in Heaven on Friday, March 17, 2017, and was reunited with family members who preceded him in death. He passed away peacefully at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington where he was surrounded by his wife of 60 years - Amalia Ortega-Garza, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and close friends.

Jesus was born in Pflugerville, Texas on August 22, 1928 and is the son of Eusebio Garza and Herminia Sarabia-Garza-Moreno. His father Eusebio passed away when Jesus was 2 years old and his mother Herminia later married his step-father Ambrosio Gonzalez Moreno, who joined her in raising their children.

Early in his life when he was 10 years old, along with his mother and step-father, and his siblings, they migrated from Texas to Washington State following the crops to be harvested, and eventually they settled in Toppenish, Washington, where they were among the 1st 7 Hispanic families who settled in the Yakima Valley. Though they had settled in the Yakima Valley, he and his family still worked in agriculture; they followed the crop harvests and migrated to Arizona to pick the cotton, where his 1st 3 children were born: Jesus "Jessie", Jr., Rick, and Deborah Garza. Jesus met and married his wife Amalia Ortega-Garza in Arizona with whom he recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 3rd, 2017. From this marriage, Jesus and Amalia gave birth to their children: Daniel, Mario, Jaime, Fernando, Carlos, Graciela, Bertha-Alicia, Reynaldo, Minerva, and Erica Garza.

Later in his career when Jesus was about 18 years of age, he bought an 8-wheeler truck and got involved in trucking and hauling local harvested crops e.g. potatoes, etc. for several years.

Jesus has spent a lifetime devoted to his family and had a drive to set good examples for his children and worked on getting his GED, and then got a job as a bus driver with the Wapato School District, WSD and as a maintenance worker. He worked for the WSD until he retired in 1993.

After retiring he loved spending time playing poker with his friends and family, watching the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, and reading the Yakima Herald-Republic and keeping up with local and national news. However, more than anything, he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Jesus is survived by his wife of 60 years - Amalia Ortega-Garza, his children & their spouses: Jesus "Jessie" Jr. Garza (Kathy), Rick Garza, Deborah Garza-De la Cruz, Daniel "Dan" Garza (Yesenia), Mario Garza (Yolanda), Fernando Garza, Carlos Garza (Silvia), Graciela Gonzales (Robert), Bertha-Alicia Garza-Salinas, Reynaldo Garza (Ashley), Minerva Garza-Bonner (Eric), and Erica Garza-Hernández (Ryan). Jesus is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Jesus is also survived by his sisters Adela Moreno-Navarro, Anita Moreno-Marquez and step-sister Aurora Moreno-Ramos. Jesus was preceded in death by his father Eusebio Garza, his mother Herminia Sarabia-Garza-Moreno and step-father Ambrosio Moreno, his son Jaime Garza, his brother Juan Jose Garza, and his sisters Alicia Garza and Amalia Moreno-Vela.
